Sergio C. Deganis
Sergio Deganis is a partner with the firm of Ouellette, Deganis & Gallagher,
LLC. His practice is focused on personal injury and commercial litigation
representing both Plaintiffs and Defendants. For twenty seven years he has
successfully represented clients involving personal injury, breach of
fiduciary duty; construction losses, legal malpractice, product liability,
motor vehicle, uninsured/underinsured and wrongful death matters. Sergio has
tried over twenty cases to verdict and has further represented clients in
mediation and arbitration proceedings. He is corporate counsel to several
companies. Recently, he tried a breach of corporate fiduciary case and won a $4.7 million dollar verdict for his client.
Sergio is a court appointed Arbitrator and Special Master for the State of
Connecticut in the New Haven Superior Court. He is also frequently appointed
as an arbitrator by private parties. He is a member of the following bars
and legal organizations:
Massachusetts Bar; Connecticut Bar; U.S. District Court for District of
Massachusetts; U.S. District Court for District of Connecticut; U.S. Court
of Appeals, First Circuit; and, U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit;
Connecticut Bar Association; Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association; Defense
Research Institute; and, National Institute of Trial Advocacy.
He
previously was the managing and senior trial attorney with DuBorg & Deganis,
American International Group Counsel for Connecticut. He began his legal
career as an attorney working on behalf of General Electric Company
nationwide.
Sergio graduated from Suffolk University Law School with a J.D., cum laude,
in 1981. While at Suffolk, he was a member of the Law Review. In addition to
his BA degree from the Buffalo State University, he completed significant
course work toward a MA in Public Policy at University of Buffalo.
Sergio is an active member of his church, the Cheshire United Methodist
Church. He has served as Lay Leader, Trustee, Staff/Parish Relations
Committee Chair, Safe Sanctuary Committee and Natural Church Development
Chair. He was elected as a delegate to the New York Annual Conference. For
over 10 years he has co-led a weekly adult Sunday School Class.
For recreational enjoyment, Sergio is an avid soccer fan. He has worked with
the Cheshire Soccer Club for many years as a coach, manager, administrator,
tournament director and State Certified Referee. He continues to play indoor
soccer weekly.
